Normally at this time of year I’d be looking at stuff that is hopefully going to get released by Christmas so I can throw together a list of stuff that nobody ends up getting me. While I was doing this very thing I came across a game that wont make my Christmas deadline but seem to be worth a look anyway. The game is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
While it is still a ways off, release of February 7, 2012, they still have a good enough amount of info out about it to take a quick glance at. At first it looks like your standard single player RPG, you have the quests, and factions that you help or hinder, and you have classes….kind of. The class system from this game stands out a bit, instead of being stuck with one class you get to switch classes at certain points in the game. Your character died and was resurrected loosing all connection to the tapestry of fate. Since your fate is undecided you can choose what you want, as you progress you will unlock more fate cards which allows you to switch.
Combat is a fast passed feeling almost like an action game. Don’t worry though there are no button combos to remember. All the dialog options of the RPG option are there but they make it easy to skip if you just want to follow the quest line faster.
From what they’ve released the graphics looks rather nice with good spell effects. They have not released minimum system specs for PC. It will be released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on Feb. 7, 2012.
